In his early career, Mattias spent several years as a volunteer with the Victoria Police Department. As a reserve, his responsibilities included coordinating business and home security audits.
Onward, Mattias spent ten years with the Fairmont Empress Hotel, advancing into Executive Housekeeper with a reputation as a caring, exemplary leader. In this prestigious Housekeeping role, Mattias led a successful team of more than 100 personnel and realized regular growth in “Cleanliness of Guestroom” scores. In 2009, Mattias was recognized with the Fairmont Empress Hotelʼs Leader of the Year award and his Housekeeping department recognized as Department of the Year.
Pursuing a lifelong dream, Mattias retired from the luxury hotel industry in 2012 and launched Balance Home Cleaning to provide Victoria, BC with a fresh alternative in residential cleaning. Through a commitment to impeccable service, Mattias and Balance Home Cleaning live up to the promise of delivering better life balance.
Outside of Balance Home Cleaning, Mattias is known as a dedicated husband and father of three – the role which inspired his mission to provide better life balance and quality time where it matters.
Lindsay was born and raised in Etobicoke, Ontario. She relocated to Victoria in 1993, after visiting Victoria on a holiday and falling in love with the city. As part owner of the company, Lindsay has been instrumental in Balance Home Cleaning’s growth & success. One of her favorite aspects of cleaning is seeing the before & after of cleaning a space. In her spare time, Lindsay absolutely loves tapping into her creative side and turning blank wood pieces into beautiful bowls on the lathe. Her other passions include cross-stitch, knitting and baking. Lindsay is a proud mother of three and strongly believes in the company’s mission of helping people enjoy life through better balance.
Arraghan was born and raised in Victoria, BC. He joined the Balance Home Cleaning team in the fall of 2020. Arraghan particularly enjoys meeting & exceeding the expectations of our clients, along with working with a diverse team. He also appreciates how each day is a little different and loves taking on new challenges. Arraghan is extremely passionate about cooking and exploring different cultures and flavours through food. One of his longer-term goals is to open his own Western / Asian inspired food truck. In 2010, Arraghan participated in the annual “Billy Beal Ice Fishing Derby” in Manitoba. He landed a 4 lbs, 3 oz Jack Fish, which earned him first place and the $10,000 top prize.
Originally from Japan, Eriko moved to Victoria BC in 2002. Eriko has been working with Balance Home Cleaning (BHC) since the fall of 2015. One of her favorite aspects of her job is seeing the before & after of cleaning a space. She also appreciates the flexible scheduling options BHC provides, as it works well with her lifestyle. Eriko enjoys volunteering her time to help her children’s school. Currently, she is responsible for formatting their annual yearbook. Some of Eriko’s hobbies include; snowboarding, gardening and cooking.
Originally from Pender Island, Josh moved to Victoria in 2016 in search of new opportunities. Josh joined the Balance Home Cleaning team in the fall of 2017. He is an extremely caring person who is passionate about our mission of helping people enjoy life through better balance. Josh loves giving back to the community through volunteer work. While working for Balance, he has particularly enjoyed assisting Herowork. Some of Josh’s hobbies include outdoor activities and clothes shopping. Josh is known to have excellent memory for unimportant things, which at times can be advantage (such as a useless trivia contest).
Originally, from Bila Tserkva Ukraine, Natalie moved to Victoria in December of 2021 with her family. They were drawn to Victoria for the mild climate and to be close with friends who lived here. Natalie is passionate about our mission of helping people enjoy life through better balance. She loves that she can bring joy to others through her cleaning. Natalie really enjoyed assisting out team with a shoreline cleanup and would like to help with other volunteer events in the future. Natalie is also professional photographer and even owns her own studio here in Victoria. She enjoys spending time doing outdoor activities with her family.
Katelyn was born & raised in Victoria, BC. She joined the Balance Home Cleaning team in the fall of 2022. Katelyn really enjoys the work atmosphere and the friendships she’s made. She also finds cleaning very satisfying. Some of Katelyn’s hobbies include hiking and geocaching. By incorporating the two activities, it makes her hikes far more interesting & rewarding. Katelyn previously volunteered for the YMCA for approximately 6 months when she lived in Australia. She was responsible for helping guide youth in various outdoor activities.
Sora was born in Kochi, Japan and moved to Tokyo after completing high school. When he was in grade five, Sora went on a family trip to Canada. They visited Toronto, Banff, Vancouver & Victoria. Sora always had fond memories of his trip and decided to come to Victoria in the Spring of 2023 on a working holiday visa. Sora is inspired by First Nations culture & art and loves living on the west coast. He really enjoys working for Balance Home Cleaning and seeing the results of his hard work. In his spare time, Sora likes skateboarding and going for nature walks. Sora has a background in advertising design, and previously worked for a company in Japan making TV commercials. He has also filmed and edited skateboarding videos of his friends.
Nox was born & raised in Kelowna. She moved to Victoria along with some friends to gain some new life experiences & opportunities. She loves how beautiful everything is in Victoria! Her favorite aspects of working for Balance is how friendly everyone is and the open & supportive family atmosphere we’ve created. Nox has assisted with several volunteer activities in the past. These include a hospital cafeteria in Kelowna and volunteering with ski patrol & ski school at Big White Resort. Some of Nox’s hobbies include skiing, going for long walks, bouldering (rock climbing), and crocheting.
Originally from Calgary Alberta, Andrew moved to Victoria in 2022, and joined the Balance team shortly after his arrival. His favorite aspect of working for Balance Home Cleaning are his co-workers, as he gets along great with everyone. He also enjoys the work itself and appreciates the flexible work environment. Andrew really enjoyed volunteering with the Balance Team to assist Habitat for Humanity Victoria and plans to assist with future volunteer events. Andrew holds a business degree from Mount Royal University in Calgary. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and hiking, and is looking forward to getting out on the water soon. Andrew is a big movie buff and if someone starts a movie quote, he can often finish it.
Originally, from Vernon BC, Jodi relocated to Victoria in 1996. Jodi’s favorite aspect of working at Balance Home Cleaning is the work environment. She has a great report with the entire team and appreciates how the owners treat the staff. Jodi enjoys volunteering with our team, as they are always fun team building events. Some of Jodi’s passions include wood carving and painting. She’s also a huge Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Blue Jays fan.
Dale was born & raised in Victoria BC and joined the Balance team in 2021. He is extremely passionate about our company mission of helping people enjoy life through better balance. Dale is a talented artist, choosing to work with oil pastels, as his preferred medium. Some of his work was featured in a Fine Arts exhibit in the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney. When he was only in grade two, a UVIC professor featured Dale’s art in an early childhood artistic development exhibit. Dale is also fascinated with ancient history and enjoys studying this topic in his spare time.
Lauren was born in Edmonton Alberta and relocated to Courtney BC, when she was just 7 years old. She moved to Victoria, BC in 2018 to study Biopsychology at the University of Victoria. Her favorite part of working for Balance Home Cleaning is the family like atmosphere. She finds all our clients & coworkers to be extremely friendly and looks forward to coming to work every weekend. Lauren is a bit of a “foodie” and loves discovering new places to eat. Some of her hobbies include exploring the outdoors, snowboarding, and hanging out with her cat George.
Mariah was born & raised in Victoria, BC. She is currently studying music in Winnipeg, returning to Victoria during school breaks. Mariah really enjoys working with the Balance team and the satisfaction that comes with seeing the results of her work. Mariah has volunteered by providing music therapy at senior’s homes and assisting a local veterinary clinic. Some of Mariah’s passions include walking her dog and music! She particularly enjoys writing music, singing, and playing piano. Mariah even had one of her music compositions performed by her university’s choir.
Emi was born in Saga, Japan. She originally moved to Victoria, BC Canada in 2005 on a 1-year working holiday visa. During this time, she met her future husband. Emi returned to Victoria three years later, got married and became a permanent resident by 2010. Her favorite aspects of working for Balance Home Cleaning are seeing the results of her hard work. She also really enjoys working with others and making a difference in her clients’ lives. Outside of work, Emi enjoys spending time with her dog, and looking after house plants. Emi has created her own program in which she accepts free houseplants, restores them to full health, and sells them. She donates 100% of the proceeds to help support ferret & German Shepherd dog rescue efforts. In her early career, Emi was a kindergarten teacher in Japan. Emi would have her students write a letter addressed to their 20-year-old selves. She saved these letters and sent to them to her students when they turn 20.
Originally from Nigeria, Elizabeth came to Victoria to study Neurobiology at the University of Victoria. She was drawn to the beauty of the west coast, as well as the mild weather in Victoria. Elizabeth really enjoys seeing the transformation of cleaning a space and how much our clients appreciate our work. She also enjoys getting in “the zone” while cleaning, allowing her to quietly focus on her work. Outside of work, Elizabeth is an avid reader of fiction. She also loves cooking, baking, and trying new cuisines from different countries.
Mercedes was born and raised in Victoria, BC. She joined the Balance Home Cleaning team in the fall of 2023. Mercedes really enjoys seeing the results of her hard work and how it positively impacts our clients. Some of her hobbies includes growing plants, especially cacti. She also enjoys watercolour painting. Mercedes previously volunteered for “Global Village” helping to teach English as a second language. A fun fact about Mercedes is that she has obtained a red seal in welding.
Jet was born & raised in Victoria BC. He began working for Balance Home Cleaning in the Summer of 2018. Jet loves the atmosphere at BHC and appreciates the flexibility to create his own workflow during the Evening Organizer shift. Jet joined the Air Cadets when he was just 12 years of age. Over the years, he has completed several courses through cadets and recently obtained his glider pilot licence. In addition to flying, Jet is passionate about sports. His favorite sport is soccer, which he has been playing for the past 6 years. Jet is currently an honour roll student at Mount Douglas High School for academics, athletics, and leadership. Although Jet is passionate about flying, his dream job is to become a forensic scientist and wants to continue flying as a hobby.
Originally from Nigeria, Funmilayo moved to Victoria in the summer of 2023 to further her studies in education. She is currently attending the University of Victoria, working towards her second master’s degree in teaching. Prior to moving to Victoria, she taught mathematics to both middle & high school students for the past 10 years. Funmilayo really enjoys cleaning to Balance Home Cleaning’s high standards and appreciates the level of teamwork & passion her colleagues’ display. She also really enjoys our weekly “Treat Friday”. Outside of work, Funmilayo enjoys reading and watching football (soccer).
After a number of friend referrals for this company I was not disappointed with the service. The level of quality and attention to detail were second to none. It was such a treat to come home to a sparkling house, and all the areas I had requested special attention were done with exceptional detail. You can tell the owner/operator had luxury hotel experience as the team and detail he has was great and I felt 100% confident leaving them in my home. I would not hesitate to use them again or refer them to my family and friends!
